February 16, 2007 Chautauqua

From the Editor's Computer

First, I must make a slight correction to my last editorial. It was brought to my attention that in fact my favourite Hershey Chocolate Kiss commercials are the figure skating ones. I can’t image how I made such an error?

I recently read a fascinating book entitled “The Hidden Messages in Water” by Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist. Emoto photographed the ice crystals formed by freezing different types of water. Then he exposed the natural spring water to different types of music and photographed the resulting crystal formations. He then took his experimentations a step further and wrote different words (love, gratitude, fool, thank you, etc.) and affixed the words to the bottle or glass of water and then photographed the resulting crystals.

If you ever get a chance to read the book, you will be amazed at the variety and sheer beauty of the crystals that formed when the words “love,” “gratitude,” and “thank you” were used. Interestingly enough, words like “fool” either formed very distorted crystals or no crystals at all.

As fascinating as this all is, it does have implications for all of us. Not only can we have an impact on our fresh water supplies by the words we say and think, but more importantly, on ourselves. As our bodies consist of roughly 70% water what impact do you think the words you say to yourself and others have? What impact are your own thoughts having on your body and health? Think about it!
